Go in the Dark 7″

I’ve had this 7″ compilation, Go in the Dark, in my collection since the mid 90s. Somehow, I came to the conclusion that everyone else must also be in possession of it, or at least dimly aware of its existence. However, although numerous indie/punk stars make an appearance, it never got wide distribution. So let me take this opportunity to present the record to you, digitally.
There are four bands featured:
Slant 6 – Myra Power on bass, Christina Billotte on guitar/vocals, James Canty and Marge Marshall on drums
Drinking Woman – Tara (Jane) O’Neil on bass, Heather Cantrell on vocals, Greta Richter on drums, Erica Bricking on guitar
Rastro! – Nikki Chapman on guitar, Jen Smith on guitar/vocals and Donna Dresch on drums
The Scissor Girls – Sue Anne (Zollinger) on guitar, Azita (Youssefi) on vocals and Heather (Melowic) on drums.

The record was released in 1992 on Christina Billotte’s record label Mira Records (named after her younger sister and future bandmate in Quix*o*tic). The women featured on this record would later go off to perform solo or as part of bands such as Team Dresch, The Quails and Lake of Dracula.

Lost and Found exhibition 2007

cover1

The Jenny Woolworth Women in Punk mixtape cd was created as part of the Lost and Found exhibition in the Shedhalle gallery, Rote Fabrik in Züirch from 11. May 2007 – 15. July 2007. The edition was limited to 100 copies on CD.

Lost & Found looked at the reception of cultural productions and with it the possibilities of cultural self-empowerment which arise out of an engagement with a song, a work, an individual’s life plan or the appropriation of mainstream.

Women’s Film Archives: Cinenova and Bildwechsel

image from “Born in Flames” publication by Kaisa Lassinaro

Cinenova is a London based volunteer-run, charitable organisation dedicated to preserving and distributing the work of women/feminist film and video makers. Visitors are  invited to step into the archives and interact with its contents whether viewing a film or browsing the paper catalogs, posters and publications.

Another international female film archive of note is Bildwechsel which was started in Hamburg in 1979 and has since grown to include satellite groups  in Glasgow, Basel, Nurnberg, Berlin, Warsaw and Budapest. Have a look at this charming video telling the story of Bildwechsel in pictures and narrated by Durbahn, one of the founders.
